Lance Von Erich (born William Kevin Vaughan on February 2, 1960) was presented as a member of the famed wrestling family, the Von Erichs, during a period of immense tragedy for the family and their promotion, World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW). He was billed as the son of Waldo Von Erich, making him the nephew of Fritz Von Erich and thus a cousin to Kevin, David, Kerry, Mike, and Chris Von Erich.
His Origins: Unlike the rest of the "family," Lance was not a blood relative of the Von Erichs. He was brought in primarily due to the dwindling number of Von Erich brothers available to wrestle, following the deaths of David Von Erich and Mike Von Erich.
Wrestling Career: Lance joined WCCW in 1985. Despite not having the natural talent or experience of his "cousins," he was pushed heavily due to the Von Erich name. He often teamed with Kevin and Kerry Von Erich and even won the WCCW Six-Man Tag Team Championship.
Fan Reaction and Controversy: Many fans and wrestling critics were aware that Lance was not a true Von Erich. His skills in the ring were often criticized, and his portrayal as a member of the family was met with some resistance. The deception surrounding his lineage is still a topic of discussion among wrestling fans.
Post-WCCW: After WCCW declined, Lance continued to wrestle in various independent promotions.
